The Politico leads this hour with an item about how Senate Dems are starting to think that maybe, just maybe, Robert "Grand Wiz" Byrd is a little bit too senile to be the chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee.They think he may have gone downhill from the days when he was apparently operating with a full deck...like about 7 years ago when, on Fox News Sunday, he repeated the N-word a handful of times.
Getting the old Byrd out of there seems reasonable to me, but given the seniority tradition, the order of succession is not very kind to one seeking competence.
Brainiac Patty Murray would head the Committee if Byrd were to be relegated to some sort of Emeritus status.
