Will Candor in San Francisco Get You Votes in Scranton?

As I sifted through the morning newspapers and shows, I knew that Barack's candor this week reminded me of something.

But I just couldn't think of what it was...

Until now...

"Mr. Reagan will raise taxes, and so will I. He won't tell you. I just did."

Minnesota's Fritz Mondale in San Francisco, accepting the Democratic Party's nomination for President, July 19, 1984. Reagan/Bush soon commenced to kicking the ever-living crap out of he and Geraldine Ferraro.

I was looking through my closet the other day and ran into my Mondale '84 T shirt.

I will have to bust it out and wear it when I go for my jog around Calhoun this week.

p.s. Did I miss something BO said, that was surprisingly Candid?

Are you joking? The 'cling to religion' observation.

Yeah, I must have missed it until getting in the office and checking the tubes.

I did hear about it last week, but didnt think it was a big deal, and coming from a small town where people routinely vote against their self interests; thought it was kinda spot on.

Like Catholics voting republican because of 'women's rights' even though the rest of the platform is very ant-Jesus, or construction workers trying to organize vote repub so they can feel better about their gun rights. I see it all the time.

When the economy is gone, and these towns are drying up, and farmers see their children run off to Cleveland to sell insurance they tend to cling to the things they hold most dear and are most self defining.

Do you follow Canadian politics much? The Urban (no, not black) vs. Rural debate has been much more open and transparent than what has been going on here.

I think we have had this conversation before. If anything the Obama candidacy is giving us all an opportunity to look at ourselves a little more critically.

Oh, I largely agree with you...I was not jumping on him for saying it because he's probably damned-near right.

I just find it discouraging/noteworthy that Annie Rodham is jumping all over him for it!

I occasionally listen to the CBC...while I can't cite chapter and verse to you, I do enjoy listening to Canadian debates and talk.

I was just ranting, I was a little cranky.

Had I been out on the farm I would have set up some watermelons to shoot at when I got home.

It was one of those days.
