A Dog's Got Personality. And Personality Goes a Long Way.

Barack comes through with the line of the day, off-handedly calling Governor Palin a pig with lipstick...and don't even tell me this was unintentional. Actually, now that I read this again, I don't know which metaphor was more vulgar...

Obama: 'Lipstick on a pig'

Obama poked fun of McCain and Palin's new "change" mantra.

"You can put lipstick on a pig," he said as the crowd cheered. "It's still a pig."

"You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink."

"We've had enough of the same old thing."

The crowd apparently took the "lipstick" line as a reference to Palin, who described the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull in a single word: "lipstick."

The gloves finally come off. I wonder why I feels the opening is now? Is Palin already a ripe target, and why does he feel this won't backfire.

Granted I am firmly in his camp already so I am glad to see it. But one has to wonder what opportunity or necessity he sees.

Thoughts?

He is ignorant and is showing it.

Is he taking the bait they wanted to get him into? Having the top of the ticket go after the bottom on the other side?

He wouldn't be talking about her if he thought she was having an insignificant impact on what's going on.

While Gibson probably won't be THAT tough of an interview, I am really looking forward to seeing what happens there.

I agree...especially about taking the bait.

Definitely the wrong choice of words.

Bottom line: when Obama gets off script/message, he says stupid things. Call it his Achilles heel if you'd like.

Panic is starting to set in and the polling from the last few days since the RNC, is obiviously taking its toll on him.

The McCain team is really exceeding my expectations in finding Obama's weak points and exploiting them to the extent that it has a public effect on the candidate.

Is he taking the bait though, or is it a little bit more calculated?

Granted the GOP got the convention bump, but does the national polls really change things on the electoral map. Probably not, at least by glancing at RCP.

You have seen a lot stronger language coming out of camp Obama lately, at least in regards to the half truth accusations.

Well said, S.

Saying stupid things is one thing (we have put up with 8 years of it), but supporting stupid policies is another (heck, we've put up with 8 years of that too).

But if I had to choose...

BTW, from CNN:

"McCain's campaign said Obama's remarks were offensive and a slap at Palin -- despite the fact that the senator from Arizona used the phrase last year to describe a policy proposal of Sen. Hillary Clinton's."
