Advanced Evolutionary Optimization Technology...Whoh

Marc Ambinder, over at the Atlantic Monthly, put something up yesterday about a Boston company, Affinnova, that's been reporting on some pretty interesting Veep polling they've done.

They don't just do run-of-the-mill "Mitt Romney v Bobby Jindal" or "Mitt Romney v Generic Republican" stuff, but behind the scenes apply some sort of funky evolutionary biology algorithm to their results, producing what they claim are better results.

They generally apply this to big business clients like Microsoft, but have found a nice way to get in the news this cycle by getting into the politics business. Their findings show that Colin Powell shows enormous strenght as a candidate in each party!

The reason this jumped out at me, aside from being pretty interesting, is that I actually interviewed for a job with this company right around the time I found my present employment. Unfortunately (perhaps?), the conversations started while I was already in the process of settling my deal here and, wanting to go to someplace larger and more stable at that point, I decided to be honest with them and cut off the interview process rather than going through the interviews just for $hits and giggles.

Old hat Dan. We have been done some stuff with these guys for a while now.

I don't think it is really as cutting edge as they make it sound. It's just modeling based on a focus group, rather than actual real world observations. Which is quicker and almost as accurate. But it isn't revolutionary.

You're so much ahead of the rest of us, Cody.

Kudos to YOU!

Sorry that did read as rude. To reprhase: Having experience working with the company, I feel their approaches are nothing more than a different type of modeling. The Evolutionary algorithms are mostly marketing fluff.
