Ugh, I Popped The Facebook Cherry

Well, frequent reader Buck, from the Raleigh/Durham Posse sent me a Facebook invite the other day and I had to actually create (technically, at least, I didn't put anything meaningful there) a profile over there.

My space here has always been a nice refuge to semi-anonymously post and not have to worry about things catching up with me or being associated with me by name, so I don't think I'm going to link over to Facebook, but just contact me if you're one of these people who diggs it.

I'm not sure how far I'll take it over there, but it was funny that an old student of mine from my days in the frozen tundra somehow found me already. Interesting...

IP Address Code Removed

I had a little code thingy on the right hand side of the page for ages that showed you your IP and location. I've removed this. Even though I had no access to it (and even if I did, what the hell would I do with it?) more than one person seemed creeped out by it.

Google Analytics allows me to look at activity by IP, but not by specific address (ditto above parenthetical reference, though).

Those Deadheads Sure Are Funny

Since The Archive cracked down a few years ago and stopped hosting downloadable soundboard tapes of Grateful Dead shows (they are there streaming only, but the AUD tapes are still able to be downloaded), bit torrent has really ramped up as the trading method of choice in the bootleg world.

While you can often just trade one show at a time, some folks will occasionally put together 'collections' usually bound by a particular year.

Over at etree, someone's starting up a 1977 project that they will have to break up into chunks (when you combine all known sources for all shows, the compressed size of the year is a whopping 130G!).

This comment someone posted on the first installment tickled me.

I think I am one of my mother's favorite (of 2) sons...

Thank you very much to all that have worked to put this up. It gives me a chance to fill in all the missing shows from one of my favorite late 70's years.

Why Doesn't YouTube Offer This?

I was looking at some video of Dennis Kucinich to post this morning and found YouTube's apparently-extensive sharing functionality...I can Digg, post to MySpace, Facebook and others, but not the Google-owned property, Blogger.

WTF?

This is is kind of surprising that it's not easier to take a video on a site they own and seamlessly put it into my blog. Heck, Clipmarks, which I use here often, is easier!

Campaign Carl's Really Stupid Blog

I appreciate that blogging should allow one to be free of New York Times Manual of Style standards, but Carl Cameron's blog over at Foxnews.com is something you should keep your children away from.

I know that I take certain shortcuts here from time to time, but I at least try to refrain from excessive use of redundant punctuation (???), intentional misspelling in the place of punctuation (or a post-fifth grade vocabulary), non-sequiturs and the mentioning of sites that I don't have the courtesy to hyperlink.

While I don't have hundreds of regular readers, I at least try to keep up my end of the bargain, given than you've taken the time to indulge me and my hobby.

In just the last few posts, Campaign Carl has committed these and other offenses that make his blog painful to read.

I have a Google Analytics bug on the site just to monitor traffic on occasion.

Honestly, I don't pay a hell of a lot of attention to it, but every once in a while, I look through search terms that people come in on.

This one tickled me...I guess this individual was looking for this post?

New Go To Political Blog

A year or two back, my lunchtime reading every day was ABC's The Note.

Its editor was Mark Halperin and it had such a nice mix of information about the day's events mixed with just the right amount of pithiness to put it over the top for me. It was required daily reading.

Much to my chagrin, Halperin left as ABC Political Director and the site moved off my radar. I blogged about it last spring.

Well, after some here and there assigments, Halperin has re-emerged and put together a really nice site over with Time Magazine.

While not a copy of The Note (they don't seem to have a regular publication schedule like The Note does, but rather meet the needs of the 24-7 junkie by updating constantly) he does maintain a pretty good-natured atmosphere both in his choice of stories and they way they are presented.

Much as I'd like to think that I tell you everything you need to know about the world, the fact is that there's only so much of the Danimal to go around.
