Example of Anti-Thompson Push Polling

Here's an example of push-polling...often as informational as cotton candy is nutritional, being used in South Carolina in a Pro-Huck, Anti-Fred call.

Two Reasons to Consider Voting for Fred

I could have been wrong about the viability of the Thompson strategy.

To me, he's seemed pretty disinterested on the campaign trail and debates. I don't know if this is just his demeanor or part of a calculated strategy to play the role of the grownup in the room.

Either way, after the Fox debate on Thursday night, which I have my own problems with, people on the weekend shows seem to be chatting up his performance more and more...and mentioning him as a viable conservative alternative to the Huck...who some people, myself included, just can't quite see in the Oval Office.

I really don't know what the next few months are going to bring, and we're not exactly ideologically soulmates, but he's better than most of them out there now.

A Question For the Fred Heads

posed by Monsignor Will:

But ask yourself this: If he did not look like a basset hound who had just read a sad story—say, "Old Yeller"—and if he did not talk like central casting's idea of the god Sincerity, would anyone think he ought to be entrusted with the nation's nuclear arsenal?

Fred Thompson Wins GOP Straw Poll in Washington

Non-candidate Fred Thompson won a small straw poll sponsored by the Washington (State) Republican Party on Saturday.

This is only slightly more newsworthy than what he had for breakfast that day, but this, in addition to the speech he gave in California last Friday keep adding momentum.

I'm excited about a Thompson run. I'm hoping he's done all the propper vetting so it's not an exercise in futility because we find out about the 19 year old he keeps on the side, though.

The results:
Fred Thompson, 50 percent
Mitt Romney, 16 percent
Rudy Giuliani, 15 percent
Duncan Hunter, 10 percent
John McCain, 5 percent
Tom Tancredo
Tommy Thompson, Mike Huckabee and Newt Gingrich, 1 percent each.

The Gore Shadow Candidacy Rumours Continue

Britain's Telegraph is reporting this morning that TeamGore is not not starting its campaign.  While they don't name names, people
sympathetic to a 2008 Gore run are being asked if they could kick it into high gear towards the end of the year.

Gore's been quoted off and on for the past several months as saying that he has no intention of running in '08, but has so far refused to categorically rule it out.

Most people seem to agree that there's no love lost between Albert and Hilary Clinton, so this news, in addition to the continuing popularity of the Junior Senator
from Illinois cannot be welcome news to their campaign, which kicked off with a real air of inevitability.

With the cycle starting unusually early this year, this storyline is not entirely unique to Gore.  On the GOP side, Chuck Hagel, Fred Thompson and Newt Gingrich are also getting their names out there without having taken official steps to begin their campaigns.

Game on!

>>2:20PM EST....TeamGore denies that a candidate would sink so low as to sit on the sidelines, disingenuously waiting for a groundswell of support to "force" the candidate into the campaign.
