Praying for Rain This Weekend

When the summer months come, I'd almost-always prefer to be outside, provided the weather is agreeable.

I'm praying for rain, though, on Saturday, which would provide a good excuse to stay inside.

CSPAN is slated to be broadcasting the full Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting of the DNC starting at 9:30 AM. This is going to be a pretty key meeting because they're supposed to settle the Florida/Michigan dispute.

I don't have a really good feel for where this is going to go, but with the relative dearth of good primaries lately, this should help relieve my DTs.

I'm thinking that some banana pecan cornmeal pancakes might be in order...

A Study in Contrasts...And Other Random Thoughts

I wish I was more of a Civil War Buff (like Keith Hernandez) so I could find some more historically-appropriate metaphors here, but the South Carolina primary this coming Saturday is shaping up to be quite the battleground.

An article in The Politico this morning lays out how John McCain and Mike Huckabee are going after the different conventional-wisdom wings of the GOP base there.

On his first day campaigning in South Carolina after his New Hampshire victory
last week, McCain was flanked by cadets at the Citadel. Huckabee, on the same
day, stopped by a pregnancy center aimed at talking women out of abortion and
also converting clients to Christianity — 56 last year.

I was checking out a little bit of C-SPAN's continuing campaign coverage this weekend and Mitt's got a new hat on. Having apparently given up his claim on the social conservatives to Huck and others, he's now trying to dress up like an economic populist and telling the people of Michigan that their future is in restoring their lost manufacturing jobs.

And people call him a snake oil salesman! Shame!

Cool Link of the Day

The C-SPAN/XM joint venture, CampaignNetwork.org is very very cool.

The Best of Michael Savage

I'm still trying to find a copy of Michael Savage's Talkers Magazine speech that he laments CSPAN not broadcasting, I did pull up his most famous clip from his short-lived MSNBC show in 2002.  I remember watching this on a Saturday afternoon while doing some housecleaning.

It was his last show.

Later, I'll post up the video from CSPANS's Washington Journal, with Brian Lamb reading some of the emails his more literate fans sent in complaning about their decision to now broadcast his taped speech.

Here's a major league asshole for you to enjoy with your eggs and sausage links.
